Dental anxiety is a real problem for many people. It involves feeling completely terrified in the dental chair. Our dentist, Dr. Vitaly Friedman, and dental team never want you to feel this way during your appointments at 21st Century Dental Care. So, we have some tips that can help you relieve that anxiety if you have an upcoming tooth extraction appointment.

Tip No. 1: Tell our dental team how you feel. We don’t automatically assume you have dental anxiety, so you need to remember to mention it before we begin treatment. If we know about your dental anxiety, we can do everything we can to help you feel relaxed and comfortable. We can also be extremely gentle and considerate during treatment.

Tip No. 2: Consider dental sedation. This can be a very helpful tool that relaxes your nerves and uneasy feelings. You will most likely use oral sedation, nitrous oxide sedation, or IV sedation, depending on the type we offer at our office at the time. Who knows, you might not even remember the details of your appointment!

Tip No. 3: Establish a stop signal with your dentist. This signal could be raising your hand, blinking quickly, tapping your foot, or making a certain sound. No matter what the signal is, talk to your dentist about it and make the deal. If you give the signal during treatment, your dentist will give you a little break from the treatment. This can help you have the control you need.
