Many people suffer from dragon breath on occasion. Bad breath, which is also called halitosis, can be embarrassing and unpleasant. Did you know that there are certain things that can cause bad breath and that there are ways to keep bad breath at bay?

Causes of bad breath include:

– Dry mouth
– Gum disease
– Some foods
– Using tobacco products
– Plaque and bacteria in the mouth
– Issues with the body, like a sinus infection, liver disease, or diabetes

There are a variety of methods to help your mouth feel fresh and clean.

Brush and floss your teeth.
The plaque that builds up on your teeth creates the bacteria that causes bad breath. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day (for at least two minutes each time) and floss once a day. If you want fresher breath, do both more often.

Brush or scrape your tongue.
Clean your tongue with a toothbrush or tongue scraper. Clean your tongue from back to front. Most halitosis bacteria gathers on the tongue.

Rinse out your mouth.
Mouthwash freshens the breath and adds protection by ridding the mouth of bacteria. Take extra care to choose a mouthwash that kills the germs that cause bad breath. Swishing your mouth with water after meals can also help your breath, as it gets rid of food particles that get stuck in the teeth.

Remove and clean dental appliances.
For those with removable dentures, take them out at night and clean them before putting them back in in the morning.

Quit smoking.
Quitting the habit will improve your breath and give you a better quality of life.

Avoid foods and beverages that cause bad breath.
The following foods and beverages cause bad breath:

– Onions
– Garlic
– Cheese
– Pastrami
– Some spices
– Orange juice
– Soda
– Alcohol
